Christmas Markets!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and one of the highlights of the festive period in Durham is, of course, Durham City’s Traditional Christmas Festival!

With Marquee tickets priced at only £2 entry for students on Friday 29th, a visit to the festival is the perfect way to get in the Christmas spirit.

In the Craft and Gift Marquee on Palace Green, you’ll find a dazzling array of bespoke and handmade gifts, from sea-glass jewellery and Christmas decorations, to home-made hats and scented candles. With over 180 wonderful stalls on offer, you’re sure to find something to catch your eye. As you meander through the cloisters of Durham’s historic Cathedral, the regional food and drink stallholders are certain to tempt you — warm yourself up with a delicious glass of mulled wine, or gorge on the endless seasonal delights, from fruit cakes to handcrafted cheese. In the outdoor markets in Market Square, you can find a taste of the exotic amongst the varied and vibrant local traders, with fragrant alcoholic teas, or for something a little less boozy, heavenly non-alcoholic ginger wine. You’ll find yet more festive enchantment in Durham Market Hall, the perfect place to grab a warm beverage or bite to eat, whilst browsing over 50 independent stalls, selling everything from homewares, to Christmas gifts.
Throughout the weekend, there will be a vast array of musicians, choirs, bands and orchestras performing in and around the festival, with many of them being student groups such as the award winning DU Gospel Choir, St Cuthbert’s Society Big Band, Palatinate Orchestra and many, many more!
